As of 6 January 2025, 5.4 million people still have not yet filed their tax returns, which are due at the end of this month. With a late penalty of £100 for anyone who misses that deadline, consider this a little nudge to anyone who may still have a tax return to file!

In that vein, we’ve collected the key 2025 UK tax dates and deadlines below. Whether you’re operating as a small business, sole trader, or side hustler, grab your pens and get ready to mark your calendar with the dates you need to know to stay compliant and avoid penalties.

Monthly deadlines 2025

These deadlines recur across the year on a monthly basis.

19th of each month

If you use payroll software to send an EPS and FPS to HMRC, ensure these are in by the 19th of each month.

22nd of each month

If you pay your PAYE monthly, like many do, then the 22nd is the monthly deadline for PAYE payments to reach HMRC. If you intend to pay by single payment direct debit and you’ve never set one up with HMRC before, give yourself plenty of time as this takes 5 working days for the funds to reach their destination.

31 January

Your online self assessment tax return for the 23/24 tax year is due by 11:59pm. That’s the filing deadline as well as the deadline for the first payment on account. So, if you’re hoping to set up a payment plan with HMRC directly, you may want to give yourself a little bit of time in advance.

February 2025

Love is in the air, but don’t let it distract you from this tax obligation.

7 February

Today is the deadline for filing and paying your Q4 2024 VAT return. Most people use digital methods to track and file their VAT returns.

April 2025

With spring comes a new tax year.

5 April

This day marks the end of the 24/25 tax year. A new tax year begins tomorrow on the 6th of April.

May 2025

The flowers are blooming and so are the possibilities as we dive into Q2.

7 May

VAT returns are always due one month and seven days after the quarterly period, which makes 7 May 2025 the deadline for filing your January to March VAT return.

July 2025

If you provide company cars, private medical insurance, or gym memberships to your team, you’ll want to pay special attention to the beginning of this month.

6 July

Did you provide any benefits to your employees? Today is the deadline to report those to HMRC by filing P11D.

31 July

Today marks the deadline for the second payment on account of any Self Assessment tax due. Make sure the funds are with HMRC to avoid penalties.

August 2025

It’s getting hot, don’t forget this key tax bill.

7 August

It’s VAT season again, ensure you file and pay your VAT return by this date to avoid a penalty.

October 2025

Halloween may be coming but don’t let yourself get spooked by surprise taxes.

1 October

Corporation tax payments are due 9 months and 1 day from the end of your tax year, which for most companies is from the start to the end of a year, making it highly likely your corporation tax payment for the year ending 31 December 2024 is due by today.

5 October

Are you newly self-employed or have you taken a long break? Today is the deadline for letting HMRC know you will need to file a tax return. Don’t forget, company owners and landlords often need to file Self Assessments as well, since dividends and rent are taxable income and need to be reported to HMRC.

Not just that, but if you’ve been running a small side hustle or business for a while now, and you’ve just broken past the £1,000 earning threshold, you will now need to start reporting your income through Self Assessment.

31 October

Filing tax returns using paper rather than digitally? While your digital counterparts can file on 31 January 2026 next year for the 24/25 tax return, you will need to file yours before 31 October 2025.

November 2025

Remember, remember…these key dates.

7 November

Today is the last VAT return submission deadline of the year, get all your filing and payments in on time to keep your business on track.

December 2025

Don’t forget to wrap up these last tax obligations before closing up shop this year.

31 December

If your financial year as a business ends 31 December, then your 2024 corporation tax return is due by today.

January 2026

To ensure you get ahead, here is a date you might want to mark for 2026.

31 January 2026

This is the deadline for submitting your tax returns digitally for the 24/25 tax year. This is relevant to you if you are self-employed, receive dividends or rental income, or if you earned over £1,000 from 6 April 2024 to 5 April 2025.
